
Elmer Schelske July 2, 1914 - Feb. 17, 2004
Elmer Henry Schelske, 89, Reliance, died Tuesday Feb. 17, 2004, at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls. Burial will be in the Reliance Cemetery.
He was born July 2, 1914, at Hamill to Edward and Mary (Ott) Schelske.
He graduated from Reliance High School in 1932, and continued his education in Chicago at the College of Advanced Traffic. He returned to Chamberlain and worked on a farm. He then worked with Beck Motor Company in California. A year later he returned to South Dakota to farm and raise Registered Hereford cattle.
Nov 16, 1940, he married Vaneta Tracy at Gordon, NE.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reliance and served in various church offices; served on the board of Farmers Union Oil Company, served as a Lyman County Commissioner and was an inspector for the Lyman County Weed Board. He was also a member of the Reliance School Board.
He is survived by his children: Myrna and husband Billy Hale, Plattsmouth, NE, Harlan and wife Sonia, Reliance, Lorna and husband Jerry Kistler, Chamberlain, and Judy Brewster, Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Adolph, Chamberlain, and Alfred and wife Edna, Reliance, and two sisters: Betty Fillbach and Violet Burull-Borr, both of Riverside, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on Feb. 4, 2004; a son-in-law, Doug Brewster; one brother and three sisters.
